Who has the better local music scene, Brighton or London?

Yank preparing to move to the UK. I am a musician by trade and I am likely going to want to start a band or at the very least start performing when I get to the UK. I may be living in either Brighton or London, and I'm trying to figure out which has a better music scene? I may become a student at BIMM (Brighton Institute of Modern Music) so if anyone has any information on them that would be helpful as well.
