Nighttime feedings for a 6mo old?

When is it best to wein your baby off of nighttime feedings? I have heard so many things!! My son just turned 6 months old and is fed. Some people have said that fed babies should never be weined of nighttime feedings but that bottle babies can be. Other people have told me that by 6 months there is no medical need for a baby to need to eat at night and that if he is stil waking it is just because of habbit. My son goes to bed around 8 and I feed him when he wakes up between 2 and 3am and then he wakes up at 8 am and i feed him. so he's going about 6 hours twice in the night. Now that he's 6 months I'm not sure if he really needs that feeding or not?? And if I try to cut it out I'm afraid he sure wont make it til 8am it would probably be 5 or earlier, ehh!! What have you guys done about this?
