What's the max lb of line I should be using when fishing for Small/Large Mouth B and Northern Pike?

I'm a little new to fishing and my uncle takes me and I normally like to go for b, pike, channel catfish. I would just like to know what type of line I should use and lbs. Also, what bait is good. Thanks
