How do you determine the "k" value ? (grade 11 math) if your given y=kx+1 and y=x^2+5x+9?

Given only "y=kx+1" and "y=x^2+5x+9" you cannot determine k. You would at least need to know how both equations are supposed to relate to each other or some other limiting condition in order to solve for k.
