Good plants for shallow area in full sun all day?

Water won't drain very well unless you can drill some drain holes through the concrete. Different coloured Heathers should do well, give them a good feed every spring.Must agree Hostas do prefer shade and do well in it.A mixture of soil and compost might be best.
